On the 26th of June, the ANC will celebrate 68 years of its inspirational political document, The Freedom Charter. This documentary film, Freedom Isn’t Free, The Freedom Charter Today, challenges South Africa’s ANC government with its failure to bring into being the words and resolutions of the Freedom Charter, adopted in Kliptown in 1955. The film contains archival footage of the historic meeting, interviews with several political leaders then and now along with sobering analysis by activists. In the context of a rapidly deteriorating socio-economic and political situation in South Africa causing the suffering of the overwhelming majority under neo-Apartheid conditions, this film is a must see for us to come to terms with our past, present and plot a way forward.
