South Africa was rocked by economic sabotage, food-riots, looting and mass destruction of business and state infrastructure. Nearly 300 people were killed as the country was shocked by this tsunami and the security forces struggled to contain the situation.
What started off as protest and sabotage action against the jailing of former president, Jacob Zuma, soon morphed into a mass revolt as poor people took to the streets and malls to secure food and whatever they could lay their hands on.
