The lockdowns have shut down most economic and social activities, forcing billions of people to stay at home. Some middle class professionals are managing but for the majority of working class people it has meant job losses and a sudden end to their livelihoods.

Transport has been deemed an essential service for transporting mainly food, equipment and people such as healthcare workers and later for most workers to travel to workplaces.
