Labour Advice Media & Education Centres (LAMECs)
Strengthening worker support, education, and organising capacity in communities.
LAMECs are outreach hubs designed to address gaps in training, support, and capacity within the labour movement and working-class communities. Many trade unions lack sufficient shop steward development, limiting effective worker representation and access to essential services.
The Challenge
Limited shop steward training reduces capable activists
Union members lack access to proper legal advice
Marginalised workers remain underserved
Our Solution
We established LAMECs as physical community hubs in Khayelitsha and Alexandra, connecting trade unions, NGOs, and community members.
LAMECs act as social, educational, and support centres for workers and communities.
What the Centres Provide
Paralegal and labour law support
Case management and worker assistance
Volunteer training
Study circles and forums
Union connections
Community outreach
